Child Support

Child custody is a crucial issue in any matrimonial or family court matter. It will impact the life of your child in many ways. Your child's residence will shape their daily interactions. Simply put it will dictate how often you and the other parent see your child.

The court uses "the best interest of the child standard" when determining an award of custody. The standard has not been specifically defined. Rather, it depends upon the facts of each case. In making a determination, the court will consider who has been the primary caretaker, the existence of a status quo, siblings, parental stability, financial ability and the child's preference.

I am a Garden City-based attorney who has litigated many highly contested and high-conflict custody matters. Many of my cases have proceeded to trial where I have obtained very successful results on behalf of my clients. In certain cases, the court will order a forensic evaluation to assist the court in reaching a determination.
